Best Practices to Avoid Trademark Filing Mistakes

You may have heard that the USPTO is considering moving to one $350 application for filing trademark registrations. In addition, they want to charge fees for things like not using the IP manual to choose goods and services AND for going 1,000 characters beyond the first 1,000 characters in the free-form text box, including punctuation and spaces! Whew.

While the USPTO tries to figure things out with the proposed single app, we are dealing with issues around the TEAS Plus and Standard apps, such as:

  1. Which application should you use for your client?
  2. What happens if you forget to submit a consent form for your client's app or don't include a translation?
  3. Did you know that you could lose TEAS Plus status? Then, someone (probably you) must pay $100 per class because you lost Plus status. Yikes.

  • Straightforward breakdowns of TEAS Plus and TEAS Standard apps
  • What are the specific requirements and fees associated with both
  • Ways to recognize common pitfalls and errors in completing your client's apps and strategies to avoid them
  • How to advise your client on which app they should use based on their specific trademark needs (and budget considerations!)
